I have a real thing right now for anything in a vintage style (or real vintage ofcourse!). With such pretty and romantic looking accessories, table decorations and dresses available, I think this style is ideal for a wedding.

A couple of weeks back (before the computer went on the brink) Gemma – from The Wedding of my dreams and I, got talking about all the fabulous vintage inspired table decorations she currently has on offer – and luckily for us, she is willing to share the best with us!

So, over to Gemma;

At The Wedding of my Dreams we currently love everything vintage. We are an online shop selling wedding table decorations, favours, venue decorations, brooches and some unique extras, with our vintage ranges
being some of our best sellers.

1. Vintage Birdcage Table Plan – This is one of my personal favourites, and has been loved by our brides. The slightly domed Antique finished metal frame complete with love bird comes with limed wooden pegs to hold your Table Cards in place.

2. Silver and Glass Vintage Votives – These glass votives come in three different designs with silver metal twisted around the rim to give that vintage lace filigree effect. Simply place a t-light in the glass votives to add that dreamy, romantic look to your wedding tables.

3. Vintage Mocha Freeze Dried Rose Petals – Our mocha coloured rose freeze dried petals are grown with care and attention in the Shropshire countryside. They are a taken from high quality roses where you can see the curves and intricate detail of each petal. These amazingly vintage looking rose petals would look perfect scattered on the tables to fit with your vintage wedding theme.

5. Silver Lovebird Name Place Holder – If you are looking for something to display your place cards with look no further, these unique little silver birds look stunning on wedding tables and can be given as
favours for guests to take home for their memos/photos.

6. Silver and Pearl Brooch – Each Stunning Silver and Pearl Brooch is carefully created to add that perfect finishing touch to your wedding outfit, use it on the ribbon of your bouquet, as a gift for your bridesmaids. Or add that Wow factor to your table setting and add as a napkin decoration for special guests.

7. Hanging Heart Lovebirds – This vintage inspired decoration of white heart lovebirds will look gorgeous hung around your wedding venue inside your reception room, marquee or hanging from trees in the garden. A perfect finishing touch to your vintage wedding.

8. Soft Pink Flower Heads – These soft pink vintage flower heads look great in a vase or scattered around your guests tables or sweetie, use them in vintage tea cups to decorate favour boxes and other creative ideas.

9. White Flower Candle in Vintage Tin – These candles are handmade and smell beautiful as soon as the tins are opened, I love the design on the lid of the tin, making them an original addition to any wedding, whether they are positioned on the guest tables to tie in with your vintage look or are saved for special guests to take home in memory of your special day.

10. Pretty in Purple Candle Holder – Each candle holder is covered with pink/purple daisy and viola petals giving it a romantic summer look. As the pinks and purples are soft tones they would look beautiful in a vintage inspired wedding.

DIY – Cheap & Chic Wedding Invitations

Recently my friend got married in Italy (the wedding photos will be posted very soon!). For this, we got together and made her wedding invitations, place settings and menus.

There is no doubt that it takes a lot of time, but we started them early. Making a few things each night or doing a bigger batch at the weekend, and they were all done in plenty of time. Below are the results;

Didn’t we do well?!

The DIY invitations were so simple and cheap to make. Here is what was needed;

  • A few boxes of card, in Carolyn’s chosen colours, cream and burgundy. These were a bargain, at only £5 per box of A4/A5 from PaperMill.
  • The ribbon was from the John Lewis haberdashery , all in all, we needed about 3 reels, costing £3 each.
  • The little stick on pearl jewels were from Ebay – £2 per pack of 80.

Aside from this, the only tools required were the computer and printer, a guillotine and ofcourse lots and lots of double sided tape!

Deciding on the size of the invitations, we simply cut some card and made a mock up to ensure Carolyn (and I guess Billy?), liked the design.

After that, I printed out all the wording for each of the invitations, the menus and the placecards. We cut all the card – this bit is a tad tedious, but once it’s done, the creative work takes place!

And so, we set about sticking all the pieces together (I’m sure there is a more technical term).

I’m obviously biased, but don’t they look great!?!

An Alternative to the Traditional Guest Book

Category : Wedding Decorations, Wedding Planning

My car sharing buddy and I got chatting about guest books recently. Not really thinking about these type of things (he is a man after all), he was surprised to realise that there was more than one option available (and is now intent on using the one that I really want, damn him). Anyways..

I always feel compelled to write something in a guest book (I mean duh that’s the point of them right?!). But then, when I think back about what I write, its probably really cringeworthy nonsense, mostly alcohol fuelled and more than likely not something that the bride and groom want to read. That said, I know that I will want one. I’m not too bothered about the actual message wishing me and Chris a lifetime of happiness (I take that part for granted and assume all our guests want this without saying it), I just want something that guests can capture the essence of our day in and hope that it will be a good essence to catch.

With loads of new and interesting options to make your guest book a little less traditional, which will you chose?

Small, compact and very practical, this wedding guest box from Cutthecakedesigns is perfect for those looking for a slightly traditional twist for their guest book. Small cards ensure that guests don’t write screeds of drunken blurb and you could even get them to write down their addresses so that you have them all handy for your thank you cards! Perfect.

Slighly quirkier from CustomDogBananas, and ideal for those with guests who will either want to write a book, or not know what to write is the wedding guest jigsaw! Each piece gives your guest just enough space to write congratulations. A great little keepsake for you (and the kids later on!).

There is also the option to have a photo of you on display to be signed. Nowadays it is quite common to have an engagement shoot, or at least a pre wedding shoot with your photographer so perhaps you could use one of those?

Or, my favourite is the polaroid guest book. Where all your guests get to take a photo of themselves and write something next to it. The perfect way to remember everyone at your wedding and one step further to see them in the moment, on YOUR wedding day.

Be amazed – Paper Wedding Cake Topper

Category : Wedding Decorations

When it comes to personalising the wedding details, I love stumbling across the treasures (wonderfully talented folk) who appear on Etsy.

Cake toppers, to me, were relatively simple. Generally a man and woman probably made of icing on top of the cake or even simpler, some flower arrangement that ties in with your wedding colours/theme. All nice enough.

On Etsy however, there are numerous styles of cake toppers. Animals dressed as the bride and groom, love birds, fancy feather like assortments, swarovski initials- and cake toppers made of paper.

Yep, paper.

Shouldn’t be exciting should it? Take a look at the amazing Wedding Cake toppers on display, courtesy of Concarta.

And even though it is relatively expensive at $100, it’s unique, custom made – and pretty damn impressive eh?!?!
