After buying a dress, I suppose the next step is accessories. Thankfully we have professionals like Claire Ogden (of Claire Ogden Designs) on hand with some suggestions to help.
“As we all know weddings can be quite an expense and therefore it is worth looking around and into all the alternative options before deciding on what you want.
Try a scrap book of different styles and themes before you commit to anything and have an open mind before you do go shopping.
- DECIDE ON YOUR THEME – this covers the look you are trying to achieve, colours, materials and styles.
- DECIDE YOUR STYLE – Decide if you want unique, contemporary, vintage, modern or traditional. If you are looking for a more individual look it may be better selecting a bespoke package tailored for your exact specifications.
- SET YOUR PRICE – Agree a budget and how many items you would like. It may be better to have one extravagant purchase than lots of little ones.
Even with these questions answered, once you see some designs and pieces which are available you may change your mind – I have a lot of brides who want to go for Bridal Hair Combs until they try on a Tiara!
When you have decided on colours it is then best to see which style of jewellery will work with your chosen dress, below are a few examples to ensure you get the most out of your jewellery.
This dress would look simply stunning with a crystal and pearl necklace, worn very high and incorporating golden/champagne tones or even a floral appliqué. This would be set with a gorgeous cuff bracelet in a matching theme. The earrings only need to be delicate and I would suggest a small set tiara or bridal comb.
The dress speaks volumes and you wouldn’t want to complicate the detail.
With such a statement neckline, for this dress I would suggest simple stud earrings or very small chandeliers. Lots of cream pearls and crystals. Make the statement here with a lush tiara or bridal hair comb!
I suggest a gorgeous high tiara for this look, again in crystal with a matching cuff bracelet and elaborate earrings.
As an alternative look I would suggest incorporating lace into the design, chiffon and voiles, matched with Swarovski Crystals and embellished with ‘hot fix’ crystals direct to the material for a fairytale/whimsical look.
This dress is beautifully created to catch the eye with all the gorgeous appliqué. For this look I would suggest a rather wide cuff bangle, made in the same style as a tiara with lots of detail and texture, simple stud earrings and a bridal comb to sit in a side up-do hairstyle using lots of floral detailing to compliment the dress.”
